Should I create an account to start a collection on Merci So Much?

Yes, you must create an account to start your collection on Merci So Much.

To create an account, it is quick and easy: consult the section “Create and manage my account”, then “How can I create an account on Merci So Much”.

Is there any minimum or maximum amount to collect?

No, there is neither a minimum nor a maximum amount to collect; you decide!

If you have a collecting goal in mind, you can mention it when creating your collection. A gauge will appear on the page of your collection so that you can measure its increase in real time.

How much does it cost?

Start your collection for free.

Contribute to a collection for free.

Use the collected funds: you will be charged only 3%.

This commission will be charged on the total amount you collect, either when you ask to transfer it, or when you offer the collection to its recipient.

This price applies no matter how many transfers you ask, to a bank account located in the Euro Zone. It covers the managing fees of the collections and the fund transferring fees.

Is it secure?

Yes. Our first concern is to ensure the security of your transactions:

  • We work closely with the international bank BNP Paribas to manage our payment system. Therefore, your transactions are fully secured; no banking information passes through nor is stored on our website.
  • The Merci So Much website is HTTPS accredited. Information which passes through is encrypted and protected at all times.
  • All our payments are submitted to the 3D Secure technology, which was developed by Visa and Mastercard and is used by most European banks. Thus, when you participate in a collection on Merci So Much, your bank asks you to confirm your payment by entering a code, which will be sent by text message, or your birthdate. Therefore, you are guaranteed to be the only one using your payment card. In the case of any trouble (lost, stolen or non-existent card), the transaction is immediately blocked.
  • In addition, the money collected is stored in a dedicated bank account at BNP Paribas during your collection. The money is safe at all times.

Who can access my collection?

Anyone receiving the link to your collection can access it and contribute to it. Your friends can invite other people to contribute.

However, your collection is never listed on search engines (Google…); it is not accessible to strangers browsing the internet.

What kind of contribution can I choose?

When creating your collection, you can choose between 3 kinds of contributions:

  • Open contribution: each guest can contribute according to their wishes.
  • Suggested contribution: you suggest a contribution amount to your guests. Nevertheless, they can contribute as they want.
  • Fixed contribution: you impose a contribution amount to your guests. They won’t be able to contribute more or less than the fixed amount.

How can I hide the contribution amounts of my collection?

You control all the information you want your guests to see. Contribution amounts are hidden by default. However, you can unselect this option and let the contributors choose whether or not to publish the amount they contributed.

You can also choose whether or not to publish the contributors’ names or the total amount collected.

How can I invite contributors?

There are multiple ways to invite your friends to contribute to your collection.

  • Send them invitations by:

Adding email addresses manually, by typing them in and separating them with a coma

Importing contacts by selecting your guests from your mailbox (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hotmail)

– Writing them a private message on Facebook, by directly selecting your guests from your Facebook contacts.

  • Copy the link to your collection using the share toolbar.
  • Share your collection on social media thanks to the share toolbar.

How can I change my collection?

At any moment, you can change the name and the description of your collection, as well as its cover picture and its due date.

However, you won’t be able to change the type of contribution, the type of invitation or the published/hidden information once your collection is created.

How can I send new invitations?

You can invite new guests to contribute to your collection at any time, as long as it is open.

To know the different ways to invite your friends, take a look at the section “Create my collection”, then “How can I invite contributors?”.

How can I remind my guests?

You can remind the latecomers by clicking on the “Write to guests” button, located on the right side of your collection.

The emails of the people who have not contributed yet will automatically be selected and you will be able to contact them again by writing them a personal message.

You can choose the option “Get a copy” to keep a history of your reminders.

How can I chat with my guests?

You can write to all your guests, to the ones who have already contributed or only to the ones who have not contributed yet and send them a personal message thanks to the “Write to guests” button, located on the right side of your collection.

If you want to have a group chat, you can write on the event wall of your collection.

How can I be informed of my guests’ contributions?

You will be informed of new contributions by email and in real time. By default, we have preselected the option “Notify me of new contributions” which is accessible from your collection.

You can also check the list of your contributors and their contributions by downloading a summary of your collection at any time, thanks to the “Download the summary” button.

What if I forget the end date of my collection?

No worries! By default, we have preselected the options Remind me 48h before the end and Remind me on the day to help you successfully collect on your way to the finish line! Thus, you’ll be able to remind the guests who have not contributed yet.

How can I know about my guests’ comments on the wall?

You will be notified of any new comment on the wall in real time. By default, we have ticked for you the option “Notify me of the wall activity” which is accessible from your collection. You will receive an email for each new publication on the wall.

What if the collection goal is not reached?

The collection goal is optional and serves as a rough indication of the total amount you want to collect. If you don’t reach it, nothing happens.

However, defining this goal can be useful. A gauge will appear on your collection so that you can measure its increase in real time and motivate your guests.

How can I delete some guests’ invitations?

You can delete guests’ invitations when they have not contributed yet (in case of wrong typing or duplication for example). Go to your guests’ list on your collection and click on the “Delete the invitation” button located under the guest’s name.

How can I close my collection?

You can suspend contributions to your collection at any time, by clicking on the Close my collection” button located on the right side of your collection. Contributors will have access your collection but won’t be able to contribute to it.

Without any action from your side, your collection will automatically close on the end date you chose when creating it. To extend the collecting period, you can reopen your collection by postponing its end date.

How can I use my collection once it is over?

Once your collection is over, you can choose between:

  • Asking for a transfer to your own bank account
  • Directly giving the collection to its recipient.

Indeed, as required by the law enforced by the French authority of control “ACPR”, the organiser of a collection must transfer the collected money to their own bank account; they can’t transfer it to a third party. They can also give the collection to its recipient.

You can use your collection at any time, partially or completely, according to your needs.

How can I transfer the collected amount to my bank account?

You can transfer the collected amount by entering your bank details (IBAN + BIC). You can partially or totally transfer your collection to your bank account.

Which countries can I transfer the collected money to?

You can transfer the collected money to a bank in the Euro zone. It includes France, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

A transfer to a bank which is outside the Euro zone is still possible. An additional cost will be charged, for each transfer you require and according to the country where the money is transferred to:

  • 10 € for Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Great-Britain, Hungary, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland
  • 50 € for the rest of the world.

Please note that exchange fees are applied by the bank and remain at your cost.

Where can I find my BIC and my IBAN?

Your “International Bank Account Number” (IBAN) is the international number to identify your bank account whereas the “Bank Identifier Code” (BIC) is the one to identify your bank.

You can find this information on your bank statement, on your personal account on your bank website for example.

When should I enter my bank details?

You don’t have to enter your bank details to begin your collection. You can enter them at any time in your Merci So Much account or when you first ask for a bank transfer.

When will I receive my bank transfer?

We process your transfer request within a few hours after we have received it. Once processed, you will be notified by email that everything went well. Then, your bank account will be credited within 2 business days. This period of time can vary according to the processing time imposed by banks; it won’t exceed a few days.

How can I give the collection to its recipient?

Sometimes, money is a wonderful gift to make a friend’s dream come true. A trip to an exotic location for example…

Instead of worrying with the recipient’s bank details yourself, give them direct access to the money collection!

You just need to enter their name and email and to write them a personal message in the requested area.

The recipient will never discover what’s going on behind the scenes: our fees are charged once when you give them the collection. They will receive a net amount that they will be able to directly transfer to their account by entering their bank details.

When will the recipient receive his collection?

When you give the collection, the recipient is notified by email about your gift!
When they log into Merci So Much to retrieve it, you are notified that they have accepted your present. To get the collected amount, it’s easy: they transfer the money to their bank account by entering their bank details.

How will the recipient discover his gift?

The recipient will receive your gift with your personal message by email. They will be asked to log into Merci So Much to retrieve the collection. The respective contribution amounts won’t be disclosed, only the contributors’ names will appear so that they can thank everyone via Merci So Much.

How can I thank the contributors of my collection?

You can thank the contributors of the collection you have organised by clicking on the “Write to guests” button. The contributors’ emails will automatically be selected and you will be able to thank them with the click of a button by writing them a personal message.

Should I create an account to contribute to a collection on Merci So Much?

No, you don’t need to create an account to contribute to a collection on Merci So Much. Simply enter your name, birthdate and email. Once your contribution has been validated, you will receive a confirmation email.

Is there a minimum or a maximum amount to contribute?

The minimal contribution amount is € 5. The maximal amount is € 250 if you are not identified.

Who can contribute to a collection?

Merci So Much is open to everybody over the age of 18. You simply need to enter your official name and date of birth.

How much does it cost to contribute?

Contributing to a collection is free!

What payment methods can I use to contribute?

You can contribute thanks to your credit/debit card. We accept cards from the networks Carte Bleue, Visa and Mastercard.

How does the “3D secure” authentication system of my bank card work?

The  “3D-Secure” authentication system has been developed by Visa and MasterCard and has been adopted by most European banks. It reinforces online transactions and protects you against a fraudulent use of your bank card.

Thus, when you contribute on Merci So Much, your bank asks you to confirm your payment by entering a single code, which it will have sent you by sms, or your birthdate.

Therefore, you’ll be guaranteed that you are the only one using your payment card. In case of any trouble (lost, stolen or non-existent card), the transaction is immediately blocked.

Can I hide my name and the amount of my contribution?

Unless decided otherwise by the organiser, you maintain control of the management of your confidentiality options. You can choose to publish or hide your contribution amount and/or your identity.

Will I receive the confirmation of my contribution?

When you contribute, you will enter your email so that we can send you a confirmation of your contribution later on. This confirmation will also be your payment receipt.

What if my contribution is not taken into account?

No worries! There could be several reasons to that, we will find a solution together. Contact us mentioning which email you used to contribute.

How can I write on the event wall?

Thanks to the event wall, you can chat with the organiser and all the guests, ask questions and share your gift ideas. And for that, no need to create an account! To post a message on the wall, just mention your name and email. Et voilà!

How can I know about other guests’ comments on the wall?

To be notified of any new comment on the wall, check the option “Notify me of the wall activity“. You will receive an email for each new publication on the wall. You will be able to chat in real time with the organiser and the rest of the group.

How can I write to the organiser of the collection?

You can directly contact the organiser from your collection. When you hover your mouse over her/his name, the “Contact the organiser” button appears; you can leave her/him a personal message.

Can I have a refund of my contribution?

Yes, you can have a refund of your contribution, within 14 calendar days, from your contribution day, and provided that the collection you have contributed to has not been used.

Otherwise, please contact the organiser of your collection.

I have been given a collection, how can I get it?

To get your gift, log in or create an account on Merci So Much. The collection your friends have given you is waiting for you in your account.

To transfer the collected amount to your bank account, enter your bank details in the designated area. You can thank your friends who have contributed to your gift directly via Merci So Much.

When will I receive my bank transfer?

We process your transfer request within a few hours after we receive it. Once processed, you will be notified by email that everything went well. Then, your bank account will be credited within 2 business days. This period of time can vary according to the processing time imposed by banks; it won’t exceed few days.

How can I thank the contributors of my gift?

You can thank the contributors to the collection you have been given by clicking on the “Thank my friends” button. The contributors’ emails will be automatically selected and you will be able to thank them in no time by writing them a personal message.

How can I create an account on Merci So Much ?

To create an account on Merci So Much, it’s quick:

  • Enter your name, email, birthdate and country of residence;
  • Create your password;
  • Validate your account by clicking on the link we have sent you, and voilà! (Without validating your account, you would not be able to create your first collection, and that would be a pity.)

Your email and your password will be your user identifiers.

What if I forget my password?

No worries! When you log in, click on the link “Forgotten password”. You will be able to reset your password.

What are “Facebook Connect” and “Google + Connect”?

“Facebook Connect” and “Google + Connect” are 2 connection systems created by Facebook and Google +. By authorizing the social network to share your name and email, you can register on Merci So Much by using your existing identifiers. No need to create and memorize new passwords!

How can I uncouple my Facebook or Google + account from my Merci So Much account?

Go to your Merci So Much account. You’ll be asked to create a different password from the one of your Facebook or Google + account.

How can I modify my personal data?

You can modify your personal data at any time, in your personal account.

Why does Merci So Much ask me to identify myself?

In order to fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, it is our legal duty to check our members’ identity.

The regulatory annual collection and contribution limit is € 2 500. To keep on collecting money and contributing, go to your account and download the required identity documents. You will have to identify yourself only once.

To identify myself, which documents should I give?

To collect and/or participate above € 2 500, you must identify yourself by giving the following identity documents:

  • An official and valid identity document (recto/verso ID card, passport, residency permit)
  • A proof of residency dating from less than 3 months (electricity, gas or water bill, internet or home phone bill*, home insurance receipt, rent receipt**, tax notice)
  • Your bank details with your IBAN.

These 3 documents are compulsory. They must be readable and under your name.

You can download the copies of these documents in the section “My identity documents” in your account.

We will validate your profile within 2 to 3 business days. After that, collecting is up to you!

*We don’t accept mobile phone bills.

**Or a statement of accommodation issued on honour by your host with his valid identity document and his proof of residency dating from less than 3 months.

How can I close my account?

You can close your account at any time by contacting us. We will disable your account. Tell us the reason for your decision: your opinion counts for us and it will help us improve our service.
